So, I had this idea. What if we, like, selected two factions, and then let people play matches using Champions from those factions, and told a story based on what happened?
I’ve been away for quite some time due to RL issues. I feel rather guilty about this—which may sound odd, given that I’m talking about a pretendy funtime game mode within a pretendy funtime game, but it’s true. I think a lot of people have enjoyed Factions in the past, and I genuinely want to support that. I myself miss the playing, the writing, and even to some extent the admin madness that happens behind the scenes. So why the hiatus? I’m not sure. I think I’ve been avoidance-procrastinating on it largely because it was such a huge time commitment that I knew it’d be impossible on top of everything else I’m doing. I don’t think I’m going to be getting any less busy anytime soon. But I’d rather at least have something running that people can participate in. It’ll start simple, but if there’s demand for more, and more importantly if enough people are available to assist, we can expand it. If not, I’m happy to just publish rosters, play matches, and write lore sometimes on a casual basis.
I describe some trepidation above, and indeed I am a bit nervous about whether I’ll be able to handle all this, especially if it ends up being just me organizing things. But I also miss hanging out with you all, playing ridiculous matches, writing ridiculous lore, watching people argue just a bit too seriously about lore event decisions, and every so often seeing things explode with an unexpected crisis.
Using material from the absurdly overwrought pitch document I’ve been writing, I’ve drafted up an arc manual for Factions Part XII: Ysantis. I’m going to be filling in details and making last revisions tonight and tomorrow, while I get the forms, etc. ready; I’m posting it now to gather comments. I aim to have signups posted shortly.
So, finish up those Ranked matches before the season ends. You’re about to get an urgent dispatch from the League, Summoners.
