voidlings-portal

We’re holding a special set of Runeterra vs. the Void matches this Saturday, July 5. These matches will influence the conclusion of the Battle of Shurima.

We encourage people new to Factions, or people who are just curious to try it out, to participate in this tournament on the side of the Void.

Sign up here

Here’s the sign-up form. You’ll be given an “edit your response” link when you send it in; please save that (email it to yourself or something) so that if you have a last-minute change of plans.

Summoners of all skill levels are welcome. We very, very strongly prefer Level 30 Summoners for these matches, though, to keep things fair. These will be “rainbow” matches, with each side permitted to have one Bronze/Unranked, one Silver, one Gold, one Platinum, and one Diamond/Challenger.

We will randomly select Summoners from those who sign up. You should be getting an email by Friday; if not, just check back at LeagueFactions.net.

Schedule

Matches will be streamed at twitch.tv/LeagueFactions.

Backstory

In these matches, four factions of Runeterra — Zaun, Demacia, Piltover, and Bandle City — fight to halt an impending Void apocalypse, as a dimensional rift opens in Shurima Desert.

The outcomes of the matches this Saturday will play a major role in determining how this plays out.

Magic Purple Sand

The Hextech Revolution storyline centers around “the Shuriman Dispute”, a contest for control of a potent hextech energy source recently discovered in Shurima: sand charged with a mixture of Void energy and lingering Shuriman enchantments from the nearby ruins. Called “dark sand” (“pyrikhos” in Shuriman), this abundant energy source allows for the production of hextech on an unprecedented, revolutionary scale. The matter has come before the League of Legends, by whose decree the ownership of the pyrikhos will be resolved by battle on the Fields of Justice. In the meantime, factions are allowed to continue with their existing pyrikhos research and mining operations, but are forbidden to expand them or to try to take over each other’s claims.

Demacia attacks Zaun’s mines in Shurima

Zaun’s mining operations are particularly aggressive. Recently, an ocean spirit named Ceruleana warned Demacia of an impending Void apocalypse, telling them that the only way to stop it was to seize and destroy Zaun’s mines. In direct violation of the League’s mandate, Demacia (joined by Piltover and Bandle City) marched into Shurima and seized the mines by force. Zaun launched a counterattack, backed by Noxian reinforcements. It retook the mines and routed the Demacian forces.

The Voidpocalypse begins

As the Demacian army fell back, Zaun and Noxus began mopping up the last pockets of resistance. That’s when Malzahar, who had been Zaun’s ally for most of the dispute, turned on them as the prophesied Voidpocalypse began. He has called forth an enormous horde of demons from the Void. Cho’gath, Kog’maw, Kha’zix, and Vel’koz emerged from the rift and joined the fray.

The skies of Runeterra darkened as the prophesied apocalypse began.

Rallying his broken army, King Jarvan III of Demacia ordered his soldiers back into battle, this time fighting alongside their hated enemies in a desperate bid to retake the mines and avert catastrophe.

Rules

These will be “rainbow” matches, with each side permitted to have one Bronze/Unranked, one Silver, one Gold, one Platinum, and one Diamond/Challenger.

We will use standard Factions Champion lists. The main exception is that Zaun will be able to bring in up to two Noxian Champions from this list: Cassiopeia, Darius, Draven, Katarina, LeBlanc, Morgana, Sion, Sivir, Swain, Talon, Urgot.

The Void roster will be:

ChoGathSquareKhaZixSquareKogMawSquareMalzaharSquareVel'KozSquare

This is obviously a very, very minimal roster. If absolutely necessary, we’ll loosen the rank restrictions to give the Void a full team.

Stakes

When we roll the dice to determine whether or not Zaun and its allies retake the mines, we’ll apply modifiers based on the outcomes of these matches. If the Void wins, it will increase the chances of apocalypse. (We obviously aren’t going to actually destroy Runeterra with this event, but, for example, it will increase the chances of Shurima becoming a Void-haunted no-man’s-land.) If Runeterra prevails, it will increase the chances of retaking the mines, giving Zaun a chance to close the portal.

The stakes will vary from match to match. Each match will add or subtract from the final modifier.

  • Zaun’s match will be worth ±30% Strength.
  • Demacia’s match will be worth ±20% Strength.
  • Piltover’s match will be worth ±10% Strength.
  • Bandle City’s match will be worth ±10% Strength.

Each match will have a value of 10 points on the Balance of Power: victory will give your faction +10 points, while defeat will cost it 10 points.

Spread the word!

We see this tournament as a good way for people curious about Factions to give it a try. Specifically, our plan is to recruit new people to fight for the Void here, since otherwise there’s a bit of an awkward conflict of interest.

We’re posting this up in a few places:

Please consider posting in these places to answer questions and encourage people to join in the mayhem.

Caitlyn, you monster.

  1. Companion Prism says:

Damn, i was hoping for Zaun to be given the chance to win this unilaterally. Ah well, we still contribute over 60% of the total fighting force.

  2. RaptorAttacks says:

Screw Zaun, I’m betraying them, WOOT!
