(August of 21 CLE) High Councilor Kolminye oversees construction of the Crystal Scar.
Planning for the eighth Factions arc is now underway in earnest. Expect more detail soon.
In the meantime, you’re encouraged to come join in the construction efforts. The forums are a good place to start. Factions is a community endeavor, and we are actively seeking Summoners to assist.
If you’d like to get down into the weeds, you may also want to take a look at the agenda and minutes from Friday’s staff meeting.
One of the most interesting proposals comes from Summoner Theoeretica: a “2v2” arc format in which one pair of factions faces off against another pair. For example, we might have a Demacia and Piltover versus Noxus and Zaun arc. Summoners may freely substitute within their “side” without penalty. (They do not bring their Champions with them: if a Piltovian subs in for a Demacia versus Zaun match, the Piltovian uses Demacian Champions.) Each side would also have an internal point of tension, enabling (to use the example factions above) Demacia v. Piltover matches, from which the other side’s Summoners would be excluded. Due to the way substitution works, matches are as easy to make as they are in a 1v1 arc like Shon-Xan, but there are still 6 possible matchups. We also give Summoners more freedom in terms of which Champions they can play, without muddling up the individual faction rosters. And, of course, the story is easier to follow as a 1v1 rather than a 4-way free-for-all.
There is plenty of discussion and decisionmaking that needs to happen first, but I will go ahead and say that I like this idea, and if people agree, I recommend that we adopt this framework sooner than later, to facilitate other planning.
To that end, I’ve created this discussion thread on the 2v2 arc format idea.
I’ve also created a thread for discussing big-picture thematic ideas for the next arc, such as what the factions involved might be fighting over.
