Hextech Revolution Lore Event IV

This is the fourth interactive lore event of the Hextech Revolution storyline.

So, we heard you liked interactive lore events. Here’s another quick one! There are three main topics. First, since Zaun’s completed all of its research projects, I think it’s about time it get a new one. Second, after consultation with Montesque I decided to do a little more investigation on the treaty issue. This poll won’t necessarily determine how the treatymaking goes in-universe, but it will influence where the factions go. Third, I decided Bandle City needed a little more love, so I’m going to let them pick up another hamster friend.

Of course, if you haven’t voted on the undead invasion lore event yet, please do so here.

And if you haven’t signed up for Factions yet, click here to get started, then come back to cast your vote in this event.

New Research Project

Zaun may begin a new research project. Options are listed below.

  • Noxian Decontamination — Zaun has now developed an unparalleled understanding of pyrikhos and the energies of the Void. Researchers believe there may be a way to purify the Noxian land which has been tainted by the Void. Opponents of this project point out that a strong Noxus could destabilize the region again, and that cleaning up Noxus would of necessity diminish Zaun’s supply of the raw materials used to make Pharmakon II. Developing the technology would not necessarily mean that it would have to be put to use, but once it exists, it would be very difficult to keep it under wraps.
  • HexKorps Extreme Measures (HKEM) — Techmaturgical weaponry is limited by the rarity of the necessary ingredients. Singed has a research proposal to address this problem: if existing techmaturgical biochemical designs can be reworked to use pyrikhos instead of rarer ingredients, massive quantities of these deadly weapons could be produced, enough to make attacking Zaun suicide. Objectors argue that once these terrible weapons exist, they will soon be put to use, whether by the HexKorps, by Singed, by a megacorps, by Noxus, or some other party. This project would increase Zaun’s Danger Level by +1.
  • Extradimensional Theory — Zaun has begun to understand the nature of the Void. Further research into this area, though quite dangerous, could reveal the deeper “science” underlying the Void and other extradimensional space, including the space from which celestial and divine beings draw their power. Such research would be truly unprecedented, and very dangerous. This project would increase Zaun’s Danger Level by +2.

Refuel the Mothership

There has been some talk of Zaun assisting Bandle City with the project to refuel the sacred yordle Mothership. Zaun must decide what its minimum acceptable “price” would be: what would Bandle City have to offer, as a bare minimum, to secure Zaun’s assistance?

  • No deal — Under no circumstances should we assist Bandle City with this ridiculous enterprise.
  • Full access — Zaun will help only if Bandle City allows Zaunite researchers to examine the Mothership and study it (possibly enabling the creation of a Zaun space fleet) and also grants Zaun periodic use of the Mothership once operational.
  • Partial access — Zaun demands that it be allowed to use the Mothership for at least the occasional mission.
  • Warpgate — Zaun demands that Bandle City agree to ferry a Zaunite warpgate to the moon.
  • NP NP — Zaun will help Bandle City without asking anything in return. They just want to help send hamsters to the moon.

If an agreement is made, Zaun will be able to add a roll each week to help the Mothership project along. (There may be a modifier based on the terms of the agreement.)

Treaty of Assistance

Zaun is potentially willing to assist Bandle City in this undead invasion. However, there’s a question of what terms absolutely must be in the treaty. Zaunite Summoners can select which terms if any they consider absolutely critical, such that they would refuse to help without them. Bandle City will then decide which terms it’s willing to offer, and Montesque will consider the overlap (if any) in deciding whether a treaty happens.

  • Die, fuzzballs — Zaun has had enough of trying to negotiate with you squirrely little runts! No treaty!
  • HexKorps garrison — Zaun insists it must be allowed to leave a detachment of the HexKorps within Bandle City’s walls until this dispute is over. Were this detachment to blow up Bandle City from the inside, any surviving yordles could certainly appeal to the Council … though that might not fully reassure the Mothership Elders.
  • Undead specimens — Zaun wants to take some undead “corpses” (including perhaps Nefara) back to Zaun for … research.
  • No spying — Bandle City must pledge, on penalty of League sanctions, that it will not spy on Zaun until the end of this dispute. (Nullified in the event of war with Zaun.)
  • No sabotage — Bandle City must pledge, on penalty of League sanctions, that it will not commit any acts of sabotage against Zaun. (Nullified in the event of war with Zaun.)
  • Just some cupcakes — Zaun will help no matter what the yordles offer. (No minimum essential terms.)

If Bandle City “over-offers”, the final treaty may nonetheless contain some of the terms that Zaun did not mark as essential. So if Bandle City offers undead specimens and no spying, and Zaun goes with “just some cupcakes”, they might still end up with (e.g.) a no-spying treaty.

Refuel the Mothership

Bandle City’s brightest minds are hard at work trying to find a way to use the pyrikhos to refuel the sacred Mothership. They have made some progress, but it is difficult. Zaun has offered to assist, sparking considerable controversy. Remember that the Mothership is truly sacred to the yordles; some are furious at the very idea of Zaunite researchers poking around inside. It was quite difficult even to get the Mothership Elders to agree to allow Bandle City’s own scientists to conduct tests. Still, Zaun’s help could be quite useful.

Bandle City’s Summoners can vote as to which terms they would potentially consider granting to Zaun.

  • Sacrilege! — Bandle City will under no circumstances allow Zaun to have any access to the sacred Mothership.
  • Warpgate mission — Bandle City would be willing to ferry a warpgate to the moon on Zaun’s behalf.
  • Partial access — Bandle City would be willing to allow Zaun to occasionally participate in a Mothership mission.
  • Full access — Bandle City is willing to share all relevant data about the Mothership with Zaun, and to allow Zaunite researchers to examine the Mothership.

If Bandle City “over-offers”, then the question becomes where in the “overlap zone” the treaty will land. For instance, if Bandle City offers Full Access but Zaun only insists upon the warpgate mission, it could end up on either extreme or somewhere in between.

Treaty of Assistance

Bandle City is facing an undead invasion. Zaun’s help is greatly needed: it is believed that this undead army is massive enough to overwhelm any single nation of Valoran, and Bandle City is far from the mightiest. What terms would they be willing to offer Zaun in exchange for its help?

Ziggs

Ziggs has declared for Piltover. However, if Bandle City is willing to let him carry out some rather dangerous experiments, he would agree to sign up with them as a secondary Champion. (He would only be available when not facing Piltover.) This would unlock the Strategic Hexplosives project in Bandle City and raise its danger level by 1.

Yordle Reinforcements

Bandle City can select another new fuzzy friend to join their cause, bringing with them a new research project.

Zaun is neither a city of mercy nor a city of war. Zaun is a city of science. All that we do, we do in the name of advancement. With the power of the gods in our hands, the stars in our grasp, and the undead under our heel, we shall drive Runeterra into a new golden age! VIKTORY FOR ZAUN!
